The Hungarian Pastry Shop has a great dessert and pastries menu of course. The staff is nice, there's wi-fi access, and people generally enjoying quiet time to themselves if not with friends. Every time I've been here the ladies at the counter were very nice and helpful and its no wonder its a popular spot for locals to hang out at. Its located near Columbia so students come here for snacks in between classes, though it caters more to an older eccentric crowd. Either way, another great cafe to check out.
Great menu full of authentic Hungarian pastries and desserts. Nice staff that are always helpful and welcoming. There's wifi access for those who'd like to spend some extra time surfing the web as they eat. Great spot for local students but the crowd has a mix of older eclectic folk as well. This is a place I'd return to for a quiet lunch with friends.
Conveniently located blocks from Columbia University. Frequented by students who want to escape the drone of Butler Library. The place offers free w-ifi and delicious pastries. Also, during the winter, the Hungarian Pastry shops sells incredibly delectable hot chocolate (also available sugar free). One thing is important to keep in mind during the school year: the place fills up fast. If you are planning on spending your day at the Hungarian Pastry Shop hashing out that essay or finishing that book for CC, you better get there early if you plan on finding an available table.
As a student at Columbia, a common joke I hear around campus is that no one leaves Morningside Heights. However, with the abundance of great coffee and pastry shops in the area it is not necessary to travel far for a great place to get dessert and the Hungarian Pastry Shop is definitely my top choice as well as a favorite for many of my fellow students. The menu is filled with your normal desserts such as strawerry shortcake and tiramisu and specialties only available at the Hungarian Pastry shop. The ambiance is great especially at night where each table is lit with a candle and there are often poetry readings and intellectual discussions. Make sure you stop by this local favorite on your next trip to the Upper West Side!
