With tents we enter the village unknown To the inhabitants and what they know, Their rituals, habits, spiritual and otherwise, Our open amazement without disguise - Childlike stares received by their wise; A wordless greeting wrapped in eyes and smiles Meets culture devoid of indexed aisles, We, the westernized, attempt communication, Busied by the notion all we see is information - Persuaded by the absolute fact we know nothing; From them there is much to be learned In the ways of treating a person's wary trust, Preserving one's history from ancient rust All their knowledge passes to future generations; May we witness enough to entrust ours.
