T his is an editorial put out by Voice of America yesterday concerning the Zimbabwe governments funneling of foreign aid funds into a bank account it then used for its own politically corrupt advantage. Most, by now, are aware of the political atmosphere in this African country, largely because it has been a popular topic on the nightly news, but I have yet to hear significant coverage on the humanitarian aspect which worsens every day Mugabe stays in power. The situation has recently further been troubled by the resignation of Thabo Mbeki, former South African President and assigned mediator of Zimbabwe's power-sharing deal, which now seems less and less likely. The stability of this region, along with numerous other African countries, is in serious danger. It is ashame there is not more coverage of the happenings on the African Continent, until that is, an actual crisis or genocide occurs, forcing the international community to finally take notice. One should note, the following editorial is a reflection of the views of the U.S. government. Because Firefox won't let me cut and paste, I will simply post the link: http://www.voanews.com/uspolicy/2008-11-12-voa2.cfm
