This Week in Travel: October 16th

Happy Friday everyone!

This week we’ve been raving about new travel photography contests, photo prints, and Fall foliage. Here’s what other travelers were exited to share on their blogs this week:

Blog Action Day 2009

As travelers we all have a social responsibility to do our part in making better transit decisions. With constant flights, train and bus rides, and car trips happening non-stop amongst millions of us, it can be hard to realize that there are ways to reduce our consequences on global climate. That is why this year’s Blog Action Day is dedicated to raising awareness on climate change. Bloggers from all over the world spoke up (even nations came together) yesterday, October 15th about the issues regarding climate change. As socially-conscious travelers ourselves, team Sosauce also shed some light on this heated debate. Read what our co-founders, Sean and Howard had to say here. Did you do your part to blog about climate change?

Best of Europe

Kyle Hepp is an amazing photographer and has been traveling through Europe with her beaux for the past few months. I’ve been following her adventures (and misadventures) as Kyle and husband, Seba, leave their footprints upon Geneva, Munich, Paris, Brussels, Florence, Amsterdam and other destinations. Their travels in Europe have come to a close recently so Kyle has listed a rating system for each destination based on fashion, food, transportation, people, shopping, lodging, and livability. Some interesting comments I enjoyed based on her list were:

- Munich residents dress “boring” but are not unattractive

- Brussels is a chocolate lover’s paradise

- Italy has the worst public transportation system due to tardiness, foul smells, and no redeeming options

- Dublin has the friendliest, happiest, and nicest people they encountered

- Couch surfing yet agains help reduce costs without reducing quality lodging

- Oslo is extremely expensive when it comes to shopping

- Brussels and Ireland were their top choices to live in

How to Enjoy A Weekend in New York City

New York City is a great weekend visit. There are unlimited options when it comes to food and entertainment, so it’s a shame to see so many tourists doing and seeing the same thing. Thankfully, Stephanie at Twenty-Something Travel knows how to see this city like a true New Yorker. The secret to getting the most out of New York like Stephanie suggests is acting like a local. Take it from Stephanie and us New Yorkers and follow these rules when invading the Big Apple:

1. Avoid tourists

2. Eat a lot

3. Find a good deal

4. Walk everywhere

5. Make new friends

Japan: Experiment in A New Kind of Photography

Trey at Stuck in Customs is at it again. He takes travel photography to a new level with each post. This week Trey put together a photo/video montage of recent shots he took while in Japan. An amazing sight into Japan’s people and culture you have to see for yourself:

Absolutely love Ten Thousand Villages. Made for some great Christmas gifts last year, and I expect this year as well.
