This Week in Travel: January 8th

This Week in Travel returns with a bang on the Sosauce blog!

Check out what made us laugh, reminisce, learn, and otherwise enjoy as 2009 came to an end:

World Hum | Travel Predictions for 2010

A humorous take on what the travel industry should expect in the new decade. Among my favorites are

More people will leave home than ever before, though many will just go out for a beer.”

“Andrew Zimmern will decide that he really doesn’t like offal and insects, and will start traveling the world in search of salads.”

“The Hamptons will be quiet this summer as everyone heads to the Jersey Shore.”

Read what else World Hum predicts for travel this year here. Which ones do you agree with?

Go Backpacking | Top 10 Travel Movies

A great list of travel inspiring movies to sit home and watch on a Saturday night. Among my personal favorites are Slumdog Millionaire and Lost in Translation. I intend to watch City of God this year as well. Which movies listed on Go Backpacking’s blog made your top 10 list?

BlogHer | Stop Sex Tourism

On a more serious note, Pam at BlogHer Travel sheds light on an all too ignored issue: sex tourism. Human Trafficking Awareness Day is next week, January 11, and it is important for travelers to know how they can make a positive impact and stop further child abuse. As Pam states, travelers can become activists and put a stop to something that just isn’t right. Learn how to get involved with organizations such as Passports with Purpose, Restore, and Born to Fly which provide educational resources and holistic enrichment for victims of human trafficking.

Thanks for reading this edition of This Week in Travel. Here’s to hoping 2010 brings us more enlightened travels!
