This post was written by our friends, Melanie and Paul aka the Wayward Winos.
After being back in the New York-o-sphere for about a month now, we Winos are a bit more nestled into our city living again as well as city pinching. As for folks trying to pursue dream jobs in the big city, PBRs, $1 slices and free events are key to a good time on a survival budget. Luckily, we just stumbled upon a new free monthly weekend treat!
Perhaps first Target Saturdays at the lovely Brooklyn Museum is a widely known phenomenon, but for those of you travelers who don’t know, now you know! Hundreds, perhaps thousands, flooded the huge venue this past Saturday, including DJs, a few of artists themselves and of course awesome art.
This past weekend happened to be the opening night of a favorite photo subject of mine, headlining as “Who Shot Rock.” Curated by Gail Buckland, shots of photographer rock legends like Bob Gruen hung next to the next generation like Justin Borucki, spanning from the birth of Rock n’ Roll to today.

“This has been the biggest thing in my career so far. I’m a big fan of a lot of these photographers, so having my work hanging next to their work is a huge honor,” said Borucki.

Check out “Who Shot Rock n’ Roll” through January 31, 2010 and check out the Brooklyn Museum for FREE on Target first Saturdays.

Welcome back to NYC!
You may also know that Target sponsors free Fridays at MOMA as well (starting from 4pm on). I personally can’t wait to see Tim Burton’s exhibit which opens today.
And here are some of my favorite, and inexpensive, activities to do in NYC: http://wanderlustprod.com/wordpress/not-your-typical-nyc-tourist-activities/
Hopefully I’ll see you at some of them! I know I’ll see you at Twitaoke (I’m AKA CareerBreakHQs)!
